A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION

News Flash! For information about upcoming immigrant seminars please click here.

Congratulations on receiving your immigrant or student visa! We wish you great happiness and much success in your new life in the United States of America.

Now you have received your visa, you will need to take many steps as you prepare to settle your affairs at home to begin a new and different life in the United States. We would like to let you know about a free seminar to help you and your family get ready for and adjust to the changes.

While the US Consulate will participate in this seminar, it is a project organized by a group of volunteers who emigrated to the U.S. and then returned to work professionally in the fields of social work, education, tax, and banking. These volunteer speakers will discuss the topics that new immigrants and students have told us they are most interested in:

- Medical cares & costs,
- Insurance,
- Income and property tax liability and planning and strategies,
- Housing,
- Education,
- American customs and norms,
- Banking and credit, and
- Preparing families, especially children, for change.

Seminar attendees will receive a family resource handbook for new immigrants prepared by a Chinese community council in the United States or you can access the online version of the handbook by clicking here (for a Chinese version click here). Although you must register for this free seminar, no obligation will result. For those holding immigrant visas, any one member of your family over age 15 may register by submitting an online application by clicking here. Students can register for a seminar by clicking here. Only attendees with prior registration can attend since the location is a government or private premises. When registering, please provide your local identification or visa number (at the top right-hand corner of your visa). Please direct any questions to Mrs. Yeung via email to usocusa@gmail.com and not to the Consulate General.

An invitation to the next seminar will be available at your local U.S. Embassy or Consulate. For students, the invitation will be included in the envelope the Consulate mails you containing your student visa and will also be posted on the IIE website. The invitation will inform you of the date, time and location of the seminar.

At the seminar venue, all attendees should be seated early so that speakers may begin on time. Please turn off mobile telephones and beepers so that others may listen without disruption.
